Terms of Service

Last updated: 29 July 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Solobase mobile application and website (together, the "Service"), operated by Solobase Ltd ("Solobase", "we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect and use your information. These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, subject to Section 14 (Governing law and disputes) below.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Solobase. By creating an account, you confirm that you are 18 or older and that all information you provide, including your date of birth, is accurate.

Because Solobase connects people who may meet in person, we take age verification seriously. Currently, age is self-declared at signup — you confirm you are 18 or older, but we do not yet independently verify this. We plan to introduce mandatory identity/age verification through a third-party verification provider, which will check government-issued ID or passport documents, before you can access certain features of the Service. This section will be updated once that provider is confirmed and live, to name them and reflect that verification is mandatory rather than planned. We may suspend or terminate your account if we're unable to verify your age or identity, or if we determine you do not meet the minimum age requirement.

2. Your account

3. Acceptable use

When using Solobase, you agree not to:

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, at our discretion.

The rule against impersonated profile information above applies to users — it doesn't apply to Solobase's own temporary, beta-only AI-operated profiles, which are clearly a feature of the Service rather than a user's account. See Section 6 for more on AI-operated profiles.

Child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE)

Solobase has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). This includes, without limitation, child sexual abuse material (CSAM), grooming, sexual exploitation or endangerment of a minor, or any content or behaviour that sexualises, targets, or endangers children in any way. This applies to all users, profiles, messages, groups, and any other content or activity on the Service, without exception.

Any account found to engage in, facilitate, or share CSAE content will be immediately and permanently banned, and reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and relevant law enforcement authorities in accordance with applicable law, without prior notice to the user.

If you become aware of CSAE content or behaviour on Solobase, report it immediately using the in-app reporting tools described below, or contact us directly at connect@solobaseapp.com. Reports involving child safety are treated as our highest priority.

Reporting and content removal

If you encounter a user or content that violates these Terms, you can report it directly from their profile, a message, or group content within the app. Standard reports are typically reviewed within 48–72 hours of submission. Urgent reports involving credible threats of violence, imminent risk of serious harm, or child safety concerns are prioritised and reviewed as soon as reasonably possible, targeting within 24 hours. Depending on the outcome of our review, we may remove content, issue a warning, or suspend or terminate the reported account. Where legally required, we report confirmed instances of CSAM to NCMEC and relevant national or regional authorities.

We may also remove content or suspend accounts on our own initiative, without a prior report, where we reasonably believe these Terms have been violated or the content poses a risk to users or Solobase — for example, in response to a legal complaint or a credible safety concern.

4. Meeting other users & your safety

Solobase is designed to help you connect with other travellers, including through public groups (Basecamp), direct messages, and shared trips. We do not conduct criminal background checks on users, and — even with age or identity verification in place — we cannot guarantee the conduct, intentions, or trustworthiness of any user.

You are solely responsible for your interactions with other users, both online and in person. We strongly recommend that you:

Solobase is not liable for any interactions, disputes, injury, or loss arising from your use of the Service to connect with, or meet, other users.

Photo sharing safeguard: in private 1:1 chats, photo sharing is disabled by default and only becomes available once both participants explicitly agree to enable it. This is a deliberate safety measure to reduce the risk of unwanted or unsolicited images being sent, and applies regardless of your own individual chat settings.

Blocking: you can block any user at any time from their profile or a chat. Blocking prevents that user from contacting you or seeing your profile. You're never notified if someone blocks you.

Meetup verification: the "verified meetup" count shown on a profile is self-reported — both users involved manually confirm a meetup took place. It is not independently verified by Solobase, and is not a safety endorsement, background check, or vetting of that person in any way.

5. User content

You retain ownership of the content you post (including profile information, photos, and messages). By posting content, you grant Solobase a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, display, and distribute that content as necessary to operate and improve the Service — for example, showing your profile to other users, or displaying your messages within a chat.

You're responsible for ensuring you have the rights to any content you upload, and that it doesn't infringe on anyone else's rights.

We may remove or restrict access to content that violates these Terms, infringes on someone else's rights, or is the subject of a valid legal complaint (see Section 3, Reporting and content removal).

If you delete your account, your content is retained for the 90-day grace period described in Section 2, then permanently deleted along with the rest of your account data.

6. Personality assessment, matching & AI-operated profiles

Solobase uses a personality assessment and compatibility engine to help match you with other travellers based on your interests, personality, and travel style. Completing the assessment is required before you can see matches or use certain other core features of the Service. You can retake or update your assessment responses at any time; your most recent responses replace your previous ones. Compatibility scores are intended as a helpful guide — they are not a guarantee of any particular outcome, connection, or relationship, and Solobase makes no representation as to the accuracy of any match.

Some profiles on Solobase are currently AI-operated rather than real people, for the duration of our beta testing period only. This is disclosed to you within the app. AI-operated profiles are used to give the Service a sense of activity while our real user base is still growing during beta (see Section 11), and may message you or appear in matches, groups, or search results the same way a real user's profile would. These profiles are designed to feel natural and human-like in how and when they respond, but conversations with them are generated automatically and don't reflect the views, availability, or intentions of a real person. AI-operated profiles are held to the same content standards as real users under Section 3 (Acceptable use). AI-operated profiles will be removed prior to public launch, at which point all profiles on the Service will be real people.

7. Public and private groups

Public groups (including those surfaced through Basecamp) are visible and joinable by any user, sorted by category or proximity. Free-tier users can join one Basecamp (location-based) group at a time; this limit does not apply to other public groups. Private groups are invite-only. You're responsible for your conduct within any group you join, and group content is subject to the same acceptable use rules as the rest of the Service.

Groups do not currently have an admin or moderator role — no user can remove another member from a group. If you experience harassment or abuse within a group, you can block the user (see Section 4), leave the group yourself, or report the user or content to us for review (see Section 3).

Only Solobase can delete a group (for example, in response to a report or Terms violation) — group creators cannot delete their own group. If a group is deleted, its members are removed and its messages are retained for 90 days before permanent deletion, in line with our general message retention approach, unless a longer period applies because content within the group has been reported (see Section 3).

8. Fees

Solobase is free to use, with an optional paid upgrade called Solobase Premium. Premium is offered as an auto-renewing subscription with the following billing periods: Monthly, 6-Monthly, and Yearly. Current pricing for each option is shown in the app before you purchase.

Free accounts have some features limited, including: search filters (Gender, Age, Travel style, Language), joining more than one Basecamp group at a time, and full visibility of another traveller's profile (including their upcoming trips beyond a single overlap, and shared interests/activities). These limits are removed with a Solobase Premium subscription.

Auto-renewal: Solobase Premium subscriptions automatically renew for the same billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your payment method will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, at the price you agreed to when you subscribed (unless we've notified you of a price change in advance, as required by the App Store or Google Play). You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID or Google Play account settings — cancelling stops future renewals but does not refund the current period, except as set out in our refund policy below.

Our refund policy: if you're not happy with a paid feature, contact us within 7 days of being charged and we'll refund that billing period — no questions asked. This applies to the most recent charge only, not to earlier renewals.

Any paid features are billed and processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, not directly by Solobase. How this refund is actually carried out depends on where you purchased:

If you purchased through the Apple App Store, refund decisions are ultimately made by Apple in accordance with their own policies — Solobase cannot approve or deny an Apple refund directly. Where your request falls within our 7-day policy above, we will support it, but you'll need to submit the request through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com or Apple Support.

If you purchased through Google Play, we can process a refund directly under this policy. Contact us at connect@solobaseapp.com with your purchase details, or request a refund directly through Google Play.

To cancel or manage a subscription on either platform, use your Apple ID or Google Play account settings.

9. Intellectual property

The Solobase name, logo, and app design are the property of Solobase Ltd. You may not copy, modify, or use our branding without permission.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms, engage in behaviour that harms other users or the platform, or for any other reason at our reasonable discretion, with notice where practical.

11. Beta service

Solobase is currently offered as a beta. This means the Service may contain bugs, may change significantly (including features being added, changed, or removed) without notice, and may experience downtime or data loss. We'll do our best to keep the Service running reliably and to communicate significant changes, but the Service is provided on an "as available" basis during this beta period, in addition to the general disclaimers in Section 12.

12. Disclaimers & limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Solobase is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to interactions with other users.

Liability cap: our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) £100.

Indemnification: you agree to indemnify and hold Solobase harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or your interactions or disputes with other users.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for:

Nothing in this section limits any statutory consumer rights you may have under the law of your country of residence that cannot be waived by agreement (see Section 14).

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll notify you of material changes through the app or by email where appropriate. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.

Before pursuing formal legal action, you agree to first contact us at connect@solobaseapp.com and attempt to resolve the dispute informally. We will work in good faith to resolve the issue within 30 days of you raising it. If we're unable to resolve the dispute within that time, either party may pursue formal legal action.

Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service that aren't resolved informally are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Nothing in this section limits any statutory rights you have as a consumer in your country of residence that cannot be waived or restricted by agreement, including any right to bring proceedings in your local courts where mandatory consumer protection law provides for this.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

16. Entire agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Solobase regarding your use of the Service, and supersede any prior agreements or understandings on this subject.
